Group representation; consider views of legitimacy in eyes of the public: descriptive representation: individuals from a particular group can see themselves in the judiciary, substantive representation: the life experiences and perspectives differ based on descriptive characteristics. Female judges provide a different perspective than male judges. Diversity as a means of ensuring legitimacy and authority of judiciary.
