Averroes is his latin name muslim name is ibn rushd. Born in cordoba, spain, which was part of the islamic world in the middle ages: islamic world started in saudi arabia, spread into northern africa and then southern. Europe i. e. spain, balkans: muslims eventually kicked out of spain by jews. His education started with study of hadith, prophetic sayings. A scholar, best known for his jurisprudence and commentary on aristotle. The decisive treatise: three chapters with three main arguments: The quran obliges muslims, insofar as they are capable, to pursue philosophy. Islam and philosophy are not mutually opposed (as al ghazali thought) It is actually theology, not philosophy, that poses a danger to islam (or sincere religious belief: chapter 1: we use philosophy to understand god, and we do this using the intellect. The highest form of intellectual reasoning is demonstration .
