Pathogenesis: the development of disease (viewing from a plant and microbial perspective. Parasite: living off of another organism to get food from it creating a parasitic relationship with host. Pathogen: organism that damages another organism: not a nutritional relationship but a physical one where one damages another, parasites are pathogens and are almost interchangeable but in clear definitions they are different. Dr genes: defense/disease response/related, these are genes that make proteins that either directly or indirectly create antimicrobial compounds or structures to fight off pathogens, actual defense proteins, enzymes that activate or help proteins. Triggered antimicrobial compounds and structures: remote precursors = you need a few steps to get to the precursor. If the response is late then the pathogen would have damaged too many cells in the area: only the area of pathogen attack will have lignification, the borders have a sharp drop off of non lignification.
