Main cause = atherosclerosis fat buildup in arteries. Risk factors for cvd: age, gender, family history of cvd. 65+ for women: being overweight/obese, being physically inactive, smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes, diet fat intake!! They effect the type and amount of lipoproteins, triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood. Lipoproteins: carries of lipids in the blood, chylomicrons carry fats from the intestine to the body and the liver, liver makes very low density lipoproteins (triglycerides) Lipoproteins packed with fat -> the body. Become low density lipoproteins (ldl: the liver makes high density lipoproteins (hdl) Think of hdl as : dump trucks leaving shit behind, too much leads to clogged arteries, plow that gets rid of the shit, h = healthy.
