State of mental strain to the point of a mental breakdown is a characteristic of expressionism. Distortion occurs in most films and the quality of light is poor. In the all three horror mini films we watched there are very large creepy mirrors. Boris karloff appears in many horror films over and over, he is black sabbath as the wurdalack and is the narrator of black sabbath. Many of the films made in america has german directors. This is how bava starts as a cinematographer. Critiques found italian horror to gory and sexually explicit, they had to tone down both of these factors. Italian horror represents a small portion of the film produced in those years.
