Document Summary

Western cities grew faster than eastern cities yet they never got as big as the eastern cities. Wealthier people want to live where there"s more space and more greenery moving away from city cores and moving out into canada"s earliest suburbs leaving the cities filled with poor people. Thus the wealthy had to take public transit. Conditions within the cities worsened, both inside and outside of the "home" - cities were dark, dimly lit, dirty, unhealthy and gross. Middle class people tended to be more involved with social reform. Very english canadian movement though, french canadian reform was much more tied into the french catholic church and french. Acceptance of darwin"s theory of evolution meant that belief in the world being created in 7 literal days lessened thus leading people to conclude that perhaps the bible is meant to be taken more figuratively instead of literally.
