Canada went from a colony to a nation and then back to a colony once more after traversing the world wars leaving britain for the united states (economist. English canadians began to worry whether culture was beginning to be dominated by the americans and whether canada was losing its unique voice. 1960s-1970s = saw a large attempt to protect canada"s culture. Wanted more canadian content on television (as this new market began to explode in north america) Suggested more funding for nfb, historical sites and museums. Recommended for the creation of the canada council that would act to provide canadian artists with funding and universities with funding for research. Nowadays, the cc only focuses on canadian artists. The crtc was created out of this era. Commercial radio needs to play canadian content (had a huge impact on the canadian recording industry)
