There was no particular moment when the middle ages ended and the renaissance began. Renaissance symbolized artistically creative, socially well developed, and economically diverse. First phase (1350-1400) characterized by a declining population, but a rise in classical texts and experimentation in a variety of art forms. Second phase (1400-1500) characterized by the creation of a set cultural values, and artistic and literary achievements. Third phase (1500-1550) characterized by the invasions from france and spain, and how those events changed italian society, and political life. Petrarch (1304-74), died during the late middle ages, known as the father of humanism. Petrarch is also known as the first tourist, during his tour he collected latin manuscripts, compared the classical authors to those of the middle ages and saw the classical authors superior. Wrote in latin and his own native language. Boccaccio (1312-75) (cid:373)ost fa(cid:373)ous piece of (cid:449)riti(cid:374)g the (cid:862)daca(cid:373)ero(cid:374)(cid:863), makes fun of the church. Strong centralized governments, leaders in all major city-sates.
