Development of materials for food packaging one of the fastest evolving areas of food industry. Employment: involves good problem solving skills and knowledge of fundamental principles of food processing, microbiology and chemistry. Packaging protects food and plays a role in communicating between the food manufacturer and the customer. Successful food packaging contains: use of suitable materials, proper techniques and designs, all of which provides specific properties to food. Food packaging and the role of food processing on foods. All functions can be contained within 4 general categories: containment, protection, convenience, and communication. Effective packaging forms an integral part of most strategies for food preservation since the objectives of packaging are to maintain product quality and safety from production to end-use at reasonable costs. Containment: facilitates division of product into individual units like cartons, cans or pouches. Units then can be grouped together (i. e. six-pack)
