ENVS 3080 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Windbreak, Strip Farming, Crop Residue
Document Summary
This section of the course attempts to assist you to organize and summarize your knowledge of the many biological and engineering erosion control measures that are available. You must be able to recommend the most appropriate measures for a situation. This is not a simple task because of the huge range of measures available. It is important to understand where and when the various erosion control measures should be used. Soil erosion control should take a systems approach. The designer should understand the progression in erosion control measures needed, with increasing control required as you move from sheet erosion, to rill erosion to gully erosion. Wind erosion control is a separate consideration, but it should be recognized that many water erosion control measures will also help to prevent wind erosion. Thus, overall soil erosion control should be considered as one system. Protecting the soil from erosive wind forces (tillage and cropping options)
