Apis mellifera scutellata x apis mellifera mellifera (european species) = africanized. Imported apis mellifera scutellata from africa to breed with european bees in brazil. Dubbed killer bees and led to a lot of media covered (films) in the 60s. Developed over a period of 3 million years, isolated same species as euro. Existence of variation for diff. characteristics/traits within the population. Variations of some traits must be advantageous in a particular enviro (selective agent: i. e. migration take advantage of diff. blossoms during diff. times of the year, variations of such traits that confer advantages must be heritable! Bee flora: scattered, seasonal, but present throughout the year. Predators: abundant, incl. ants, honey badgers, birds, homo sapiens!: bees were hunted by humans nests were destroyed to produce a fermented alcoholic drink. Climate: selects for swarming, absconding, & migration, no need for large food stores. Bee flora: selects for high reproductive rates, swarming, absconding, and migration.
