19 views1 pages

Document Summary

Focus groups involve the gathering together of various members of the community. In focus groups, the researcher gathers approximately six to 12 individuals to discuss a certain issue. The group will meet and discuss these issues for one or two hours. In focus groups, a moderator acts to introduce an issue, keep people on topic, and ensure that no one person dominates the conversation. Participatory photo mapping is a technique used particularly when doing research with children or youth. Children participate in the collection of their own research data (hence participatory) with a digital camera with gps capabilities and a book for recording their own field notes. They may work in pairs or sometimes in conjunction with a researcher or trained adult to take pictures of activity places and play spaces in their neighborhood and record feelings, thoughts, stories and experiences related to these places.
