EDRD 3500 Lecture Notes - Lecture 22: Community Benefits Agreement, Egalitarian Community
Document Summary
There are two solutions for dealing with the limitations imposed by our current service delivery structure: First, the view and understanding of leisure held by professionals working in municipal recreation departments needs to be expanded. As we have discussed in units 1 and 2, leisure including recreation and tourism includes many diverse activities, not just swimming pools and parks. Second, recreation and tourism professionals may work cooperatively with other practitioners (e. g. , health promoters, social workers, members of the medical community), which may move the process one step closer to a more interactive and egalitarian community development format. The articles by baxamusa (2008,) and nolan and march (2016) describe different case studies of community participation in planning. Using two case studies, the author describes how community involvement during the planning process enabled change to unfold.
