CIS 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Optical Fiber, Proxy Server, Local Area Network
Document Summary
The two major types of network administration are centralized and decentralized: there are different kinds of servers, a server is a computing device that responds to requests on a network. They are generally responsible for allowing access to certain areas of the network or certain resources in it. It affects the responsibilities of each computer on the network, their ability to communicate, and their vulnerability to being cut off. In some topologies, a single cut wire can completely bring down the network, in others, only a single computer may be affected. There are two general ways that networks can be administrated: centralized and decentralized. A centralized network relies on a server to provide and manage resources, while clients request those resources. This is also known as a client/server network, which is very common for a lot of different online applications and services .
