BUS 2090 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Reaction Formation, Defence Mechanisms, Organizational Conflict
Document Summary
What is conflict and causes of organizational conflict. Interpersonal con ict: the process that occurs when one person, group, or organization subunit frustrates the goal attainment of another. A number of factors contribute to organizational con ict: group identi cation and intergroup bias. People typically develop a positive view of the group they are a part of, and a negative view of another group. Relationship con ict: interpersonal tensions among individuals that have to do with their relationship per se, not the task at hand. Task con ict: disagreements about the nature of the work to be done. Progress con ict: disagreements about how work should be organized and accomplished. Modes to managing con ict are a function of how assertive you are in trying to satisfy your own or your groups concerns and how cooperative you are in trying to satisfy the other party (see chart)
