A staple food is what a large basis of their calories depend on in a day. A lot of snacks contain corn syrup- it is hard to get away from them. Grasses (poaceae) are the most widely cultivated food plants. A quarter of grasses belong to this group. Annually we produce sugar cane the most, along with. We got to this by being nomadic long ago (society used to hunt\gather). Eventually we started to settle and grow food close by. They started collecting seeds and growing them near by.
