Document Summary

Name the major anatomical structures of the nervous system; Somatic and autonomic --> sympathetic system and parasympathetic system. Describe the function of major brain structures in the telencephalon, diencephalon, mesencephalon, metencephalon & myelencephalon; The cerebrum has 5 paired lobes within 2 convoluted hemispheres, contains gray matter in its cortex and in deeper cerebral nuclei. Most of what are considered to be the higher functions of the brain are performed by the cerebrum. The cerebrum has the cerebral cortex, basal nuclei, limbic systems and is involved in learning + memory. Diencephalon: is the part of the forebrain that contains the epithalamus, thalamus, hypothalamus and part of the pituitary gland. The hypothalamus performs numerous vital functions, most of which relate directly or indirectly to the regulation of visceral activities by way of other brain regions and the autonomic nervous system. It is located between the diencephalon and pons. It has the corpora quadrigemina (4 rounded elevations on the dorsal surface).
