Major societal problems (health, energy, food, and clean water) can be confronted using evolutionary principles, but this approach is rarely used. Evolutionary biologists need to inform public and influence decision makers more than they are so mistakes that could have been prevented are not made. Test a range of variants, select the best, replicate the winning design with some error, repeat. Can provide ready-made solutions to many problems, not just the domestication of plants and animals. Policymakers need to understand that evolution is not only a problem, but solution. Eg. evolution of antibiotic resistance, millions of deaths. If it was understood that organisms evolve, and rates of evolution depends on the strength of selection, we may not be in this situation.
