Involved in eating, circadian rhythmicity, neuroendocrine function, sleep: 5-ht synthesized from tryptophan, precursor of hormone melatonin, much of serotonin (95%) is produced in the gut, understand side-effects better. Reflexes: receptor receives sensory input, which it sends to the brain for processing; brain analyzes the information and determines appropriate output.
