ANTH 1150 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Homo Sapiens, Evolution, Australopithecus
Document Summary
We (cid:396)eally (cid:374)eed to look at the broader context and understanding of biological processes we have: we incorporate all ki(cid:374)ds of st(cid:396)u(cid:272)tu(cid:396)es f(cid:396)o(cid:373) diffe(cid:396)e(cid:374)t fo(cid:396)(cid:373)s, like ou(cid:396) eyes. They do(cid:374)"t just come from our primate ancestors, but from animals years back: human and primate eyes have a lot in common that has to do with not being human but being primates. The teeth that have been selected from homo sapiens over time have been mixed between eating meat comfortably and eating vegetables as well. The brain is extremely expensive as an organ. You can only justify to grow a big brain if you have the nutritional conditions to feed that brain: not bipedal primates, they are closer to humans. They can catch fish, make nets and innovative fish hooks, and were able to augment their diets successfully and numerically become extremely successful: homo sapiens (archaic forms, not (cid:395)uite (cid:862)us(cid:863) yet.
