Animal welfare is emotional topic, with strong and varied views, not facts and mostly based on rumour or urban myth and be able to justify if it concerns different ethics. So little agreement because there is a confusion of the facts (what is) and confusion of the ethics (what ought to be) What animal welfare philosophy do i use? (ranked by dominate philosophy seen) Utilitarian: we must consider the welfare consequences for animals and benefits- 44. 7% (all students had some, ranging from 8-84%)- dominate philosophy. Animal rights- lives by straight, strict rules regardless of consequences 32. 9% (98% had some, 8-75%) Respect for nature- 16. 2% (93. 3% has some, 8-50%)- you pay attention to effect of actions on ecosystem. Relational-4. 4% (40% had some)- your relation with the subject affects actions. Contractarian- 1. 7% (14. 3 had some)- more business viewpoint, also pay attention to effect your actions have on yourself and on the animal you"re considering.
