Most complex stage with 6 sub stages: simple reflexes: birth- 1 month- no control over anything, first habit and reactions: 1-4 months- cry for the first time, voluntary muscle movement. Do things they like (suck longer: secondary reactions: 4-8 months- their reactions will have consequences. They understand cause and effect: coordination of secondary reaction: 8-12 month- use this in a more planned way. They are consciously planning to get what they want. I will cry to get food: tertiary reactions: 12-18 months- not only they can do things but do many things but 1 activity can have many possibilities. Multiple activities from 1 action: internalization of schemas: 18-24 months- they understand the connection between things. Putting things in the mouth to explore their environment and toys. Hitting the crib makes the mobile spin. Primary source of education: thumb sucking, dropping food: understanding gravity.
