Values on love and marriage linked to cultural values and economic health. Romantic love not linked to better marriages: higher expectations = more pressure! Recipe for romance: proximity, the closer people are geographically, the more likely they will become attracted to each other, homes for the elderly, college campus dorms. Distance between dorms predicts attraction: alphabetized dorm and seating assignments. A and b closer than a and z: functional distance matters too. Why proximity: more opportunities to meet and interact. Frequent exposure to a person makes us feel more positive about them: physical attractiveness. A very important factor in attention: #1 predictor of date satisfaction for males, although kindness, understanding, and intelligence rated higher.
