Unlike thomson: focuses on moral status of embryo/fetus. Against pro-choice views that propose that there is a difference in moral status between adult humans and a fetus. Some ability that we have that a fetus doesn"t have (e. g. rational consiousness) Killing is wrong because it deprives us of future value. S of l: wrong to kill a terminally ill patient who is suffering. F of v: killing in this case is permissible - person has no future value. Permissible to kill a fetus who is ill and would suffer until it eventually dies i. They are not "human life", but intelligent aliens have fov. If x has potential for u, then x has a right to life. Therefore, having u gives us the right to life. Marquis = pro life - abortions are wrong. A future filled with value, or things that will come of value. Any being with a fov is a being that would be wrong to kill.
