Governmentality and autonomous self refers to the art of government. Fuco made a distinction between sovereign rule and rule of the state. Pif you didn"t follow the rule of the king, he had the power to kill you. Foucault: says that this is the power of death. Rule of the statet: was the power of the life. Foucault"s biopower ( 2 different forms of power over life: anatamo-politics: regulation of the species body. Totalizing power: biopolitics: disciplining of the human body. Its not about the population as a whole but about the individual. Self-governemnt: the subject constitutes himself in an active fashion, by the practices of the self the idea that we don"t regulate our product completely freely. There is a relationship between the art of government and the broader social structures. Calls the liberal government as the time of freedom. Liberal-government can only function when individuals have freedom in different aspects (free market, government, etc)
