People of color were not features in mental illness ads until the late 90"s. African american men are more likely to be over diagnosed. Social factors and our relations to schisreponya shape our understanding to mental illness. When it comes to mental illness, there"s no definitive test; diagnoses relies on a person. There are a lot of factors that come into it other than biology and therefore there are a lot of misconceptions. Theres no fxed orders and identifiers to health, and they are always shifting over time. Sexism & cultural nascissism: we don"t see the sexism and narcissism because it is connected to health. Creates unrealistic standards in health; the idealized bodies of glossy health megazines. Moralism: public health ads against second-hand smoke. Second hand smoking seemed as irresponsible and immoral by harming their children. Racism & capitalism: the promotion of healthy food choices for inner city children.
