Sounds have meanings (receiver makes picture in minds of what that sound corre- sponds to) researchers think this because this is exactly what we do. Example: when we hear the word pencil, the first thing we picture in our mind is a long object that you can write with. Researchers believed this is the same thought process primates of through upon receiving a signal.
