Gerd=earth; possible marriage fertility god and soil- or gods getting their way with giants. Frey is sitting in odin"s high seat, hlithskajalf, and looks onto jotunheim and sees gerd(means earth). He becomes lovesick at the sight of her, which is likely his punishment for sitting in odin"s seat. Skirnir(means the shining one) to jotunheim to bring gerd to him at all costs. Frey gives skirnir his magical sword (that fights by itself) and his horse to fight giants and travel to their land. He asks a herdsman how to get past the dogs to get to gerd.
