Document Summary

Self-esteem: the culturally derived belief that one is an object of primary value in a world of meaning; the belief that one is living up to particular standards, values, and ideals of the cultural worldview. Often looked at in two ways: dispositional self-esteem (trait): how positively do you feel about yourself, as a situational characteristic (state self-esteem): can fluctuate day-to-day depending on the successes of your day-to-day life. I self-serving bias: don"t perceive that world as being accurate, but rather perceives the world in a way that favors themselves. Half the people were told they failed the test and half the people were told they passed the test. Asked on the validity of the test; when people who were told they passed said it was very valid in important and those who failed said its invalid and an unimportant trait. Consensus: opinion and failures- they see this as very common in the general public.
