Social categorization: stereotypes and prejudice are a result of this. Put you in a bucket, then activate those attributes that you associate with that group, onto that person. Spontaneous categorization: natural phenomenon: occurs so easily frequently, depends on current relationship with person. Categorization (putting people in buckets) is an automatic process: subtyping: when we continue to learn more about a person, we re-categorize them into a lower level social category (more specific). Depends on your relationship with the person.
