Document Summary
Psych 105: individual and social behaviour (15th february 2019)- lecture 18. False in real life but true in the mind of the believer. Young kids (3 years old) fail false believe tests. A 3-year old was shown a crayon box and experimenter asked him what was inside the box. The child said that there are crayons inside. He was asked to bring a paper to draw on. When he came back, he saw candles inside the box. When asked what he initially thought was inside the box, he said he thought there were candles inside. Make believe pretend play (something they make up themselves) Young kids 2-3-year olds pretend that a box is an airplane but knows that it is not an airplane in real life. Leslie understanding of false belief emerge from child"s concept of make belief. 3- year olds who fail false belief tests don"t fail similar tests where they are asked what they imagined were inside.
