Document Summary
Each reinforcement strengthens behavior, so crf leads to very rapid increases in the rate of behavior. Works well, but very rare in nature. Labor intensive have to be around and ready to reinforce every performance of an action. Extinction can be thought of as a continuous non-reinforcement schedule. A behavior is reinforced after it has been occurred a fixed number of times. E. g. , fr10=animal gets reinforcement after performing the behavior 10 times. Animals on fr schedules often perform at a high rate, punctuated by short pauses after reinforcement. No, not shown in other types of schedules. But may be part of the reason for it; animal knows it can catch its breath as it will be a while before the next reinforce. Related, the more work required to earn a reinforce, the longer the post- reinforcement pause. May be a way for the animal to momentarily escape the aversive aspects of the schedule.
