Document Summary

Hypertension is the most common form of cvd. Slowly creeps up on people, not often noticed. Really hard to bring it down when bp is already very high. Start to call is hypertension when systolic is over 140 (in diabetics over 130) and has a steady high bp. Bp elevated as a result of the sns (sympathetic nervous system) kicking in. Need to look at a patients bp trend. 90% is idiopathic : due to natural causes and unknown. Other reasons for high bp, other than hypertension. Pain : treat the pain not the bp. Baroreceptors communicate with the medulla in the brain. In children the rule is 80ml per kilo. 10. hypothalamus realizes a series of events which communicates with anterior and poster pituitary glands which releases adh (antiduiretic hormone) 11. adh is a feedback mechanism which communicates with kidneys and arterials. Bp depends on blood volume, peripheral resistance and co (heart rate x stroke volume)
