HECOL170 Lecture 4: Fabric Performance notes
Document Summary
Effect of woven structure to compare the performance of woven fabrics, must assume that the yarn size, yarn type, and. Durability (complex weaves) in general, complex weaves have high breaking strength and very good tearing resistance because of: the complex interlacement of yarns forming the fabric and the high number of yarns used in their construction. Also susceptible to snagging keep in mid that abrasion resistance is also greatly in uenced by yarn twist and bre toughness. Comfort effect of fabric structure on air permeability and water vapour transmission: open weave constructions (low fabric count) Will allow greater air ow and moisture vapour transmissions tightly woven constructions (high fabric counts) Will reduce air ow and moisture vapour transmission. Also gives wind/rain resistance fewer interlacements, as in twill and satin weaves, allows for closer packing of yarns (tighter fabric constructions) and this gives better wind and rain resistance.
