Citizen comes from the words demos and civis. Being a citizen was much about being involved in theatre. The space (side of a hill, acoustics, doors, entrances, orchestra, parodos) Did not take as long to build because it was on a hillside and incorporated it. Parodos is the entry ways and the intro song that the chorus sang. Skene is the back wall with three entrances that typically the main actors would use. Greek theatre is all about the open space with amazing acoustics. Function of theatre (community, didactic, religious altar of dionysus, political, social bonds / Tickets + tickets for the poor fund / all parts of society attended) There were four major festivals where theatre was staged: rural dionysia, lenaia, anthesteria, and great dionysia (most major festival). The most important was the city dionysia (theatre festival at the end of march that lasted several days)
