Population: a group of interbreeding individuals of a single species inhabiting a specific area. Absolute density: number of individuals of a population per unit area. Ecological density: incorporates the concept of the niche. Quadrats, mark and recapture, counting, traps, looking for things like tracks, scat etc. Their mass density relationship over their lifetime is going to change a lot more than animals (ex. Dictated by their niche, organisms are going to elect to live in the most optimal environment for their niche (optimal range if tolerance) Large scale: refers to areas over which there is substantial environmental change. Climate drives distribution of four encelia species pubescence hairy leaves regulate heat correlates with moisture and temperature gradients. Small scale: refers to distances of no more than a few hundred meters, over which there is little environmental change significant to the organism under study.
