Long arduous process, results take a long time. Our current system does nothing for victims. Risk factors = things that create a criminal / create crime. Protective factors = things that deter you from becoming criminal. Higher education, social supports, parenting style, etc. Similar to cpsd because it deals with risk factors. Tends to look a little bit more at the individual, opposed to the community. In order for a crime to happen, we need a commission of an offence that goes against the law and we need a punishment attached. Summary: offences that you can do and get the least punishment for (not jail) Indictable: offences that end in jail time. Hybrid: offences that fall in the middle; allow prosecutors to make a determination. Sometimes the prosecutors will look at the. If you show a track record of poor behaviour, the prosecutors are less likely to give you a break.
