Short answer concept questions in relation to the course. Residential schools were developed to kill the indian in the child . Children brought into these schools were pushed into catholicism. These children face sexual, verbal and physical abuse. Children were unable to speak their own language and change their name. In 1857 a law was passed through the constitution to send over 150,000 children were sent to residential schools. The final school closed 1996 in saskatchewan. A lot of the time they were to go into lines in a quick fashion to. The strap was commonly given for misbehavior go for meals, bed and other daily activities. Punishment was given for clothing choices, speaking without being spoken to, participation in any indigenous traditions. Children were forced to be in school until the age of 16. Williams recalled not participating in old traditions after returning home.
