Social psychology how thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are influenced by the presence of others. Social psychology emphasizes: power and influence of the situation, power of the person. Issues with social psych: ethics, can"t give info on what we"re studying. Attribution theory: explanation, how we explain the causes of our own and others behaviour, people often attribute causal explanations to atypical behaviour. Fundamental attribution error (fae) the tendency to underestimate situational factors and overestimate a person"s dispositional factors. Social perception: comparing ourselves with others, social comparison theory compare ourselves to others who are similar to ourselves. What are attitudes: positive or negative evaluation of a person, group, behaviour, issue, object or idea, attitudes are inferred from behaviour. Why do actions affect attitudes: cognitive dissonance theory, cognitions can be either consistent or inconsistent, inconsistent cognitions produce dissonance. Does behaviour determine attitudes: new roles demand new behaviours which lead to new attitudes.
