Born in what is now the slovakia town of freiburg. Interested why people have mental health issues, believed it came from the past, must be an archeologist of the mind to discover it. For economic reasons [and anti-semitism], freud"s family moved to vienna when he was a young child. As a student, freud was interested in literature and politics, but for economic reasons chose to study medicine. Freud"s personality: he lusted after being famous and influential. His first job involved neurological research as assistance to the famous physiologist, Freud wanted to continue with a career in neurology. Brucke could not get him a university position because freud was jewish. Brucke advised freud to become a medical doctor. Freud spent the winter of 1885-1886 studying in paris with the french neurologist jean. Charcot was attracting considerable attention because he was using hypnosis to treat various types of neuroses.
