Leadership development is the act of expanding the capacities of individuals, groups, and organizations to participate effectively in leadership roles and processes. leadership development increases the pool of effective leaders and enhances leadership capability. Management refers to maintaining order in organizations planning, organizing staffing, and directing but leadership is about an organizational change and helping followers achieve a vision or goal. Managers always hold formal authority positions in the organization; leaders may or may not. Some but not all managers are also leaders. Because nursing is a practice discipline concerned with health care, the coordination of safe, effective patient care is ultimately a responsibility of nursing leadership, regardless of how removed from the bedside a nursing leader is. Clear communication is an attribute of effective leadership.
