-lone parent families have lower income than married couples that are both
working.

-In rural communities younger people are leaving and older people are left and then
there is no one to take care of them. (Out migration)
-Being unemployed makes you have less income to access the resources you need to
be healthy. You eat cheaper and unhealthy foods. It can lead to stress and that
makes you more susceptible to getting sick.
Definition of community: people with shared goals and in the same geographical
area. It is defined with the people, the place an the function: aim and activities of the
community)
Community as partner it is like the windshield survey
You are taking primary and secondary sources when compiling data from the
community.
Primary: obtained from visual examination, provided contextual information
ex. Windshield survey
Secondary: data already collected that provided information on the
population or community subsystems ex. Stats Canada data
Epidemiology: looking at patterns of health issues and looks at what the root cause
and variables looked why it happens. Traces it back to a certain region.
When looking at epidemiology you are looking for the source.
Epidemiology is defined as the study of the distribution and determinants of health
related states of events in specific populations and the application of this study to
control of health problems. Uses tested and validated methods.
Ex. malaria, norovirus at the bicycle thief, smoking, violence rates
Descriptive epidemiology- discusses disease/event/ condition in terms of person
place and time.
Analytic epidemiology: why and how is it happening.
Epidemiological triangle: hostenvironment infection agent (and it repeats, it’s a
triangle)
