When does it become a problem: increased at night, may indicate disease or loss of hearing. Why: affection, marking territory, occurs more frequently if cats in conflict. Why: stimulate milk glands, happy paws, learned as kitten, feeling relaxed, content, comfortable, secure, some will suckle on skin or clothes. Why: nutrients, vomit or laxative effect. Why: sharpen claws, exsheath claws, mark territory, stretch & play. When does it become a problem: destroy furniture, scratch people.
