Questions and concerns surrounding history of social change can be summarized by. Audre lorde"s famous statement: the master"s tools will never dismantle the master"s house . Public sphere was never intended to be taken up by women and people of colour; this was claimed and turned around by these groups. Emergence of journalists alongside new technologies like the newspaper. New discourses that emerge alongside things like pamphlets, newspapers, novels, sentimental ideas, etc: pamphlet culture was linked to things like journalism that led to things like democracy. 16th century; publishing comes deeply associated with things like the newspaper: funding becomes an issue and we see emergence of advertising, uncle tom"s cabin; had to direct claim to people she was writing about. Asked how we define failure when we define radical publishing projects: market can be really effective tool for social change, markets are good at finding audiences, feminism is a good example, market success becomes sign of progress.
