Document Summary

A good forensic interview will maximize the amount of correct information reported and minimize the amount of incorrect information reported. This is a goal of all forensic interviews. As you learned in unit 3, this is a daunting objective when the person being interviewed is a child. Ideally, all information will be elicited in response to open- ended questions. Such responses from children are more accurate and more informative than responses to close- ended questions. However, it is often the case that reports elicited with only open-ended questions will be incomplete and may even be insufficient to lay a criminal charge. As such, more focussed questions are likely to be needed. In this unit, you will learn about four interview protocols that have been developed to elicit the most accurate and complete reports from children. Step-wise interview (yuille, 2001; yuille, hunter, joffe, & zapanriuk, 1993)
