Hospital has its own set of interaction patterns, rules, and rituals. Medical patients (digestive disorders, heart diseases and diabetes) average 8. 9 days per stay while surgical patients average 5. 4 days per stay. Outpatient - a person who goes tot he hospital for a procedure or test but does not stay overnight. Non-invasive - a term to describe any procedure that does not include piercing the skin or entering the body with an instrument. Day care patient - a person who goes to the hospital for a procedure or test that is more involved than, for example, routine radiography, but does not stay overnight (i. e. , laser surgery on eye) Patients may be put under general anaesthetic so the are admitted early in the day and discharged by late afternoon. Each method of admission have can a different impact from relief to a sense of trauma and fright. Study shows patients feel they relinquish control to others during hospital stays.
