Document Summary
Potential meso-level approach: cross-group contact, individual personal relationship. The basic premise: interaction/ contact between members of different groups can, under a prescribed set of conditions more positive intergroup attitudes + behaviors. Contact between individuals face-to-face interpersonal interactions (meso level) Equal status, common goals & interdependence, cooperation, supportive norms, voluntary not forced. Self & others: open possibility of we are the only way to do things. With high closeness, more contact less prejudice. Random assignment to same/ cross group partnership. Making one friend is a lot more meaningful in changing attitude. Self is relational and collective, include more than our unique self. Self-expansion motive: basic desire to increase one"s general sense of efficacy through acquisition of resources, perspectives, identities. Forming relationships with others that will allow for the inclusion of the other in self. Collective action: when a person acts as a representative of their in-group and engage in behaviors directed at improving the status of entire in-group.
