Habituation: decrease in strength of response to a repeated stimulus. Sensitization: increase in strength of response to a repeated stimulus. Acquisition: period during which a response is being learned. Stimulus generalization: responding to a similar stimuli to cs. Discrimination: cr occurs to one stimulus but not others. Pairing cs with ucs combine with pairing similar stimulus with no consequence leads to narrowing of response to specific cs and loss of generalized responses to other stimuli. High-order conditioning: a neutral stimulus becomes a cs after being paired with already established cs. Exposure therapies: cs without ucs allowing extinction to occur. Systematic desensitization: learns muscular relaxation techniques and then is gradually exposed to the fear stimulus. Aversion therapy: condition an aversion to stimulus that triggers unwanted behaviour. Law of effect: response followed by satisfying consequence more likely to occur and vice versa. Operant extinction: response occurs and the stimulus that reinforces behaviour no longer is there, the response decreases.
