E. g. pleasure in life comes from eating process. E. g. we don"t like to admit there may be other reasons that we do what we do. Must keep in mind there are things more related to person. E. g. getting food b/c short of necessary nutrients - homeostasis drive to rebalance needed nutrition. Intrinsic - willingness to do something due to pleasure of doing it. Extrinsic - willingness to do something due to gaining reward. Extrinsic can beat intrinsic in terms of motivation. We are striving to be best we can be. Talked about motivation as something that could be understood in developmental sense. Says we can regress back to previous levels in hierarchy. Says we must start from bottom & work to top. If people do not fulfill one level, they become stalled in that area. Self-actualization - complete & have nothing needed to be worked on.
