Like mill in many ways, especially the view that there should be no government interference except when harm is involved. We all have natural rights: the right to own property, and the right to ownership of your body: nobody has the right to violate these. Government can only interfere if someone tries to interfere with someone"s natural rights (i. e. , burn house down or rape) The only function of the government protect these two rights. Drugs are physically harmful to the individual and should therefore be banned. There are a lot of things that are still legal and bad. Under this premise, everything bad should be banned, which is unreasonable. Usa (1985): 200,000 deaths from alcohol, 3000 deaths from illicit drugs. Drugs promote crime and should therefore be banned. The suppression of drugs is what causes crime, not the drugs themselves. If drugs were legal, drug lords could potentially go to cops and lawyers for help with drug disputes.
